Local holidays to support local jobs

23 Feb 09

As part of the Commonwealth's cash bonus announcement, at the end of February the State Government will endeavour to lure stimulus package bonus recipients with bargain holiday breaks in Queensland.

The Bonus Breaks campaign launched by Tourism Queensland is also hoping to bolster local visitor numbers, to help secure local tourism jobs in the region.

Couran Cove Island Resort General Manager Scott Hayden said this is a great opportunity to support local Queensland tourist destinations like Couran Cove to make it through these tough economic times.

“I encourage couples and families to visit Couran Cove Island Resort to help sustain local jobs and support hundreds of families who rely on visitors during these times,” Scott said.

“With official interest rates dropping three percentage points in the past few months, petrol prices stabilising and most workers receiving $950 lump-sum tax-free payment in March or April,. The average person is set to have a little more cash in their back pocket.

“I think everyone is entitled to a well-deserved break. Visiting Couran Cove Island Resort will be good for the soul and good for the economy.”

Brisbane resident Shevaun O’Callaghan’s family took a vote to invest their ‘windfall’ in a family holiday at Couran Cove Island Resort because they feel good about securing local jobs while treating themselves to a break.

“It is always such a great experience for us to do things as a family. Now we can enjoy our holiday knowing we are helping other families secure their jobs,” Shevaun said.

Couran Cove Island Resort is a local Queensland resort located just a 40 minute ferry ride from the Gold Coast.

The broad range of activities provides visitors with the opportunity to spend quality time – building a lifetime of memories. An excellent use of the cash bonus Mr Rudd would surely approve of.

Outdoor excitement while exploring the maze of safe bike trails, sun-soaked beaches and coastal bush is sure to lure the kids away from the TV and the Xbox.

Free activities, which the kids won’t even realise have an educational slant, include the opportunity to get up close and personal with the island’s native wildlife and resident reptile collection and learn about the island’s aboriginal culture and dreamtime artifacts located around the resort on the Alcheringa Trail self-guided walk tour.

Bush walks and cycling trails in the many rainforest tracks offer further incentive to explore the natural world on land, while the timetable offers every possible combination of water activities you’d expect from an island resort. Even the younger kids can get special treatment with those from age three upwards catered for at the resort’s Kites Kids Club.

With the kids happily entertained, parents can relax at the luxurious Day Spa (the couples’ room is very popular) or simply kick back and enjoy a relaxing picnic on their own private patch of the resort’s 22 kilometre stretch of beach.

As discovered by our overseas visitors, Couran Cove Island Resort is also a great base from which to explore the Gold Coast. Only a 40 minute ferry ride from the Gold Coast's dazzling attractions - world famous theme parks, outlet brand shopping and the casino. Whether it’s shopping on the mainland or island activities, the resort’s activities and tour desk is open daily and can organise anything from helicopter rides to snorkeling and fishing.
